My boyfriend and I are avid Pentax {and film} lovers! I have a gorgeous KM that has been a constant companion {with an awesome 50mm 1.4 lens!} and just yesterday I bought a new {old} Pentax ME F {with the first autofocus lens} for him at Value Village...He uses a Pentax digital too because of the weather sealing. Anywhooo...
These are gorgeous! What type/iso film did you use? Are those flowers out right now?! I still have icicles on my trees! xo
Ha ha! Thanks Dee! I had fun playing with it. You know you've been shooting digital for far too long when you open the back of the camera BEFORE REWINDING the film! Ha ha! Needless to say, the last few shots were exposed, but I'll live.
Some flowers have been in bloom for weeks because of the fluctuating temperatures. I used Fujifilm Superia ISO 400. The next roll will be to try out Kodak Portra 400. Yay for film adventures!! xo
Thanks Meg! I'm glad the scans came out ok. The prints I got were HORRIBLE! Won't be doing that again. Wish we had a true professional lab that worked on 35mm here in town, but alas, if I want local, I have to do the drugstore thing. :\
I went through art college and university using Pentax cameras. Great little cameras that i still have. Mine were the Program A, Super A and i had an MX too.
Great shots Kat. To be honest i like film not only because of the images it produces but also the process - no instant gratification and you need a bit more thought. Just out of interest, what does your local drugstore charge for film processing.
The lab i use in the UK a film process only (no prints) comes in at just under $10 per roll though some places do it for under $7. As for a UK drugstore... it would be more i would think... if you could find one that did it.
Rich, I know I'm going to enjoy shooting with my new buddy! I have my Mom's Honeywell, but alas, it needs some major cleaning up. And I do love film photography. I have missed it. One, I don't have to sit in front of the computer spending hours editing. I hate editing. With a passion. Ha ha!!
I need to look into costs for photo processing outside of Wilmington for 35mm. The drugstore I brought it to here charged me $17+ for process, prints, scan for 36 exposures. I didn't get a break down of just processing and scan. I'll find out more when I go back with a different roll. Now for 120 and 220 film, I can take it to the local camera shop that just started developing film. I'll be taking those rolls there. I believe it was $7.50 just for developing and $7.50 for a low-res scan disc. :\ Yay film!
My favorites are the fern and the flower...you have flowers already? It's snowing here today and nothing is green just yet! Flowers only by the end of April! I think these images show to us that your journey as a film photographer will be blissful! I think it is a great idea and film get us excited. Somehow I get more excited with a manual camera which I've not used for a long long time. I can't wait to see more of your film work my friend!
Zee, when I took that shot of the fern, I had you in mind! And yes, we're already seeing flowers. Actually, we've been seeing them for awhile now. When we had a good warm spell (in the 70s) like a month or so ago, everyone's flowers started blooming. Then the cold came and about freaked those poor little guys out. And us too!
I'm pretty stoked about going back to film also. I needed something to make me slow down and focus, put more thought into what I'm doing. I hope future exposures will be blissful as you say!! :)
FABULOUS! {shouted out loud}
