.optimist & pessimist.

looking for that silver lining
Both optimists and pessimists contribute to our society. The optimists invents the airplane and the pessimist the parachute. ~G.B. Stern.

I've always liked that quote. This week, it has really hit home for me as my inner optimist and pessimist are at odds with each other. There have been some great photography opportunities that may be in the works, but for fear of jinxing myself, I'm going to wait before sharing much about it. Then, a nice big obstacle presented itself in a conversation with my hubby and his employer. The business is closing by the end of the month, which means three weeks from today he will be without a job unless something else happens. I already see a move from this house inevitable, which I think may actually be a good thing. BUT, that means it's time to pack. Again. I swear, I'm not always the "gypsy" by choice. I have to admit that I'm a little scared but trying desperately to stay positive. My inner optimist is saying, "Hey! We'll be just fine." My inner pessimist is saying "Start planning for the worst now otherwise you're screwed." Deep inside, I know everything will be okay. That fear of the unknown is what gets me all the time. Good things are happening. I know they are. I just have to remember that behind every dark cloud, is a little bit of sunshine.

  1. hugs to you....I've been in your shoes more than once !
everything happens for a reason....i have that tattooed to my forehead in case I ever forget.....

  2. I think your last line sums it up nicely. Also remember that when one door is closed, another is opened. Good luck with everything.

btw - the lamp in the middle of the photo seems to have a toothy grin saying everything will work out.

  3. What a beautiful passage for such a striking photo!

Kathy, I really believe that good things happen to good people; I know your family will be alright.

Like you, it's "fear of the unknown" that gets me... and the fact that I'm powerless and unable to control some aspects of life.

What we *can* know and control is ourselves... and that's a big enough challenge as it is, don't ya think? ;)

  4. Thank you everyone for your uplifting words!

Beth~ Does your tattoo only show when your forehead gets heated up because that's how I can read mine. ;o)

    Rick~ You crack me up!

TM~ Welcome and thank you. :0)

M~ I wish you all the best and appreciate your words very much. Thank you.

    Meg~ Gimme a hug.

  5. Changes are scary but usually turn out for the best. Now is the time to lean on the Lord for his will and guidance. Tomorrow is a new day.

  6. I know what you mean - changes ARE scary. But that's when we are stepping out of our comfort zone and have no choice but to trust. Wishing you lots of strength and guidance and protection! {hugs}

  7. i have always believed that thing work out just the way they are supposed to. still it can be hard and scary to get through the rough spots. you are already doing your best in searching for the silver lining, as you are sure to find it...

Just so you know. . . you've already brightened my day!
